History of Kites

Welcome to the History of Kites site!

There are many varied websites about the large & exciting world of Kiting. Until now though, there's never been on that covers all aspects of it, including kiting's exciting and turbulent history. This website is not just another resource for kite enthusiasts to find pictures, tips, and plans on... It is the only website at all that offers something for everyone, no matter your interest or experience level when it comes to kites.

If you're new to kiting, you'll quickly be able to use this resource as a way to orient yourself in the huge world of kiting, and easily seek out the aspect of it that is most interesting to you. You see, Kiting these days is so much more than the traditional pastime of a simple afternoon in a field holding a string. In fact, few rarely hold the string anymore at all once it's up! Today we have stunt kites, aerial ballets, exotic designs, international competitions, kite surfing, electrical systems, huge airborne 'sculptures,' dynamic twirling windsocks and drogues, electric wenches and reels, world-class festivals and events, high-tension-lightweight line, ground anchors, line ascenders, and of course, any size, shape, and color of kite imaginable. This website will spend a lot of time letting you explore this massively varied world for yourself.

If you happen to already know a thing or two about kites, then we've still got plenty to interest you. Not only do we have the most complete History of Kites yet here for you to read, but we have many other resources here like rules, terms, pictures, and building plans too. -And we'll keep adding more all the time!

About us: This site is put together by Kite Enthusiasts from around the US. Members have been flying various kites since childhood, and have more recently learned to build a few kites. At the Seal beach Kite Festival in September 2005, many new kite enthusiasts were compelled to become more involved in this fascinating hobby, as they went online to learn as much as they could. This website is a culmination of what they have learned on many other kite enthusiast's websites that were many and varied, each specializing in a small part of the huge world of kiting. We hope you find it a valuable asset, and tell your friends that are new to the hobby where to find us.

Thanks for flying by!
